Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information the Beth Din of Boston collects through this website, how it is used, and how it is protected. We collect only what we need in order to respond to you and to carry out the halachic services you request.
Information you give us
We collect information only when you choose to send it to us through a form on this site:
- Contact form. Your name, email address, phone number, and message.
- Application forms for Gittin, Conversion, and Jewish Status. These ask for the details the Beth Din needs to consider an application, which may include your address and date of birth, family and lineage information, marital history, religious background and observance, references, and — on the conversion application — questions about your health. You choose what to submit, and no field is mandatory.
Please send us only what a form asks for. Do not include payment card details, government identification numbers, or other sensitive identifiers in a message.
How we use it
Information you submit is used to respond to your enquiry, to assess and process your application, and to keep the records the Beth Din is required to maintain for cases it hears. We do not sell your information, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not use it to market anything to you.
Our web host also keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses and browser information, for security and to keep the site running. If you log in as a site administrator, WordPress sets cookies that are necessary for that session.
Information may be seen by the dayanim and administrative staff handling your matter. Where a case requires it, relevant details may be shared with another beth din, a sponsoring rabbi, or a rabbinic authority involved in your case.
Analytics and information collected automatically
We use WP Statistics, a self-hosted analytics tool that runs entirely on our own server. It tells us general things such as which pages are visited and how often, but it does not use cookies, does not store your IP address (only a one-way hashed, anonymized version is kept, briefly, to avoid double-counting a visit), and does not send any information to Google, Microsoft, or any other third party. It cannot identify you personally, and we never combine it with anything you submit through an application or contact form.
Where it is stored
Form submissions are stored in this website’s database, hosted by SiteGround, and are also sent to the Beth Din by email. Access to the website’s administrative area is limited to people who need it.
How long we keep it
General enquiries are kept only as long as needed to deal with them. Application and case records are retained as part of the Beth Din’s permanent records, because halachic documents such as a Gett or a certificate of personal status may need to be verified many years later.
Your choices
You may ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. We will honour deletion requests except where a record forms part of a halachic case file that the Beth Din must retain. Contact us using the details below and we will respond as soon as we reasonably can.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new date at the top.
